Ramsgate boasts the country's only Royal Harbour, which is lined by waterside cafés and vibrant restaurants. A charming blend of maritime heritage and architectural finery. Ramsgate is a cultural hub, with a wealth of creative residents and a blossoming arts scene.
The town has a rich history, with Queen Victoria, Vincent Van Gogh, Charles Darwin and Karl Marx all calling Ramsgate home over the years. The harbour meanwhile prides itself on a storied past, including playing a vital role in the ‘Little Ships’ rescue of soldiers from Dunkirk in WW2, immortalised by Cristopher Nolan's recent hollywood blockbuster.
If you venture to Thanet’s other seaside towns, you can also stumble across a world-class art gallery, visit vintage and independent stores, and have fun in the regenerated Dreamland amusement park, in the famous resort of Margate. Or visit close-by Broadstairs, which is brim-full of nostalgic, old-world, seaside charm. Sandy bays meet surf schools. Fishermen's cottages meet Charles Dickens connections. Retro ice-cream parlours meet chic shops. Relaxed and unspoilt, this is the perfect place for chilled-out, family-friendly fun.
